We are the Pupil Chaplains of St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, and we feel truly honoured to serve our school community in this special and privileged role. As Chaplains, we wear distinctive green jumpers in a different colour to the rest of the school uniform. This helps everyone recognise us and understand that we have a special role in supporting the Catholic Life and Mission of our school. To become a Pupil Chaplain, we went through an application and interview process, led by our RE Subject Leader, Mr Drumm, and our parish priest, Father George. We meet regularly to pray together, reflect, share ideas, and plan how we can help deepen the spiritual life of the school.
One of the things we are most proud of is our beautiful school Chapel. It is a sacred and peaceful place where we always remove our shoes as a sign of reverence. During lunchtimes, we take turns supporting prayer and reflection in the Chapel and along our Spiritual Pathway. Older pupils (Years 4–6) often visit to spend quiet time with God, and we also invite younger pupils (Years 1–3) from the playground to come and pray or simply reflect. This is organised on a weekly rota.
As Chaplains, we also support the faith development of our younger peers, helping them grow in their understanding of God’s love and the teachings of Jesus. We regularly lead and take part in Collective Worship, helping the school mark important moments throughout the Liturgical Year, such as leading the Rosary in October and supporting Advent and Lent activities.
We are proud to act as ambassadors for our faith and school, often accompanying visitors and prospective families on school tours. Through our actions, we aim to live out the Gospel values and show the love of Christ in all that we do.
As part of our mission, we also support charitable causes at a local, national and international level. This year, we are proud to support:
In everything we do, we try to follow the example of Jesus, living as servant leaders and encouraging others to grow in faith, hope and love.
