Year 6 had a truly memorable history experience this week when an archivist visited our classroom to deliver special sessions on World War II. The archivist brought with her some incredible original artefacts, including leaflets that explained the evacuation process for children during the war. These items have been carefully preserved and gave us a real sense of what life was like at the time.
The sessions focused on our local area and the history of Highgate School, allowing us to see how the war affected our own community. We even got to look at photographs of Highgate during the war and compare them with how it looks today, which made the history feel really real and close to home. One of the highlights of the day was trying on an old school uniform, which gave us a fun, hands-on experience of what it might have been like to attend school during WWII. Overall, it was fascinating to learn from an expert and see real historical objects up close. Year 6 left with a much deeper understanding of life in wartime Britain.
