Today in RE, Year 6 learned about Carlo Acutis, a young boy who used his love of computers and the internet to share his faith. We found out that he was recently canonised as a saint because of the way he lived his life with kindness, generosity and devotion to God. On Thursday, we also attended our start of Autumn Term Mass at St. Joseph’s, which Amethyst Class led beautifully with the opening, readings and bidding prayers. During the homily, Father George spoke to us about Carlo as well as Pier Giorgio Frassati, another young role model who lived out his faith in everyday life.
After learning more about Carlo’s story in class, pupils reflected on how the internet can be used in both positive and negative ways. We thought about how Carlo used technology to spread goodness, and we discussed how we can also use the internet to connect, learn and share positive messages. We also talked about the dangers, such as unkind comments, misinformation and spending too much time online, and how we can make good choices to stay safe and use technology responsibly. Year 6 finished the lesson by committing to use the internet in ways that help, support and inspire others.
