Today, Year 5 took part in a brilliant Science Day filled with experiments, challenges, and a lot of curiosity.
We kicked things off by investigating the biscuit bonanza! Seeing how many dunks it takes for a biscuit to dissolve in different liquids – water, milk, and cola. After making predictions, we timed each one to see which liquid broke down the biscuit the fastest. It was a simple experiment, but it sparked some great discussions about dissolving and the properties of liquids.
Later in the day, we attempted a fun (and slightly sticky) challenge: stretching a Curly Wurly chocolate bar as far as possible without it breaking, inspired by the Guinness World Record. It was trickier than it looked, but we had a lot of fun trying!
To finish the day, we made small rockets using film canisters, water, and vitamin C tablets. The reaction built up pressure and launched the canisters into the air – some flew impressively high! It was a great way to explore chemical reactions and forces in action.
Overall, it was a fantastic day of hands-on science and creative thinking.
