It’s been another busy week in Year 4 as we have been preparing for some very special events and diving deeper into our English learning.
We are now in full swing getting ready for our Harvest Assembly, which will take place next week. The children have been practising their lines with great enthusiasm and working together brilliantly to perform the songs. Alongside our rehearsals, the class have also been busy with some seasonal artwork to help bring the harvest theme to life. We’ve been painting apples and autumn leaves, using a variety of painting techniques such as colour blending and layering. These pieces will be used to create a beautiful display in the hall for everyone to enjoy during the assembly. The children are very much looking forward to showcasing their hard work – don’t forget to mark your calendars for our Harvest Assembly!
In English, we’ve started preparing to write our own fact files about significant historical figures who are buried in Highgate Cemetery. This links closely with our current local History topic and has sparked lots of interest and thoughtful questions from the class. This week, we focused on exploring the features of a good fact file. The children worked in groups to sort examples of fact file features and discuss their purpose. We talked about how cohesive devices, such as subheadings, conjunctions and fronted adverbials, can help group related facts and guide the reader through the information clearly and logically.
