From Wednesday this week, Year 4 have been on an unforgettable adventure at the Gordon Brown Outdoor Centre, where they’ve spent several incredible days embracing the great outdoors, challenging themselves, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Our adventure began bright and early on Wednesday morning as we set off on the coach, full of excitement and anticipation. With bags packed and smiles all round, the journey flew by as the children chatted eagerly about what was to come and looked forward to the days ahead.
We were blessed with glorious weather throughout our stay — bright blue skies and warm sunshine made every activity even more enjoyable and meant we could make the very most of the great outdoors. Whether tackling the climbing wall, building fires, or relaxing around the campfire in the evening, the sunshine added to the wonderful atmosphere.
Each day has been packed with action-filled activities that encouraged teamwork, resilience, and plenty of smiles. On the low ropes course, the children worked together to balance, climb, and navigate obstacles, showing fantastic support and encouragement for one another. Archery tested their focus and determination, with cheers ringing out as arrows hit their marks!
Outdoor challenges like climbing walls, scrambling over obstacle courses, and even scaling and descending the thrilling “death drop” pushed everyone to step out of their comfort zones and celebrate their bravery. Rock climbing has been a clear favourite, with many children proudly reaching new heights and inspiring their friends to keep going.
One morning, we had the chance to collect firewood and learn how to build and light our own fires safely. Using these fires, we made popcorn the traditional way over open flames — a brilliant mix of teamwork, outdoor skills, and tasty rewards. After a busy day of activities, everyone enjoyed warming mugs of hot chocolate in the evenings, dipping marshmallows and biscuits into their drinks and chatting together as the sun set — the perfect way to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures.
Throughout the trip, it’s been wonderful to see friendships strengthen, confidence grow and the joy of trying new things together. Whether building fires, cheering each other on during activities or simply chatting and laughing over meals, the sense of community has shone through every moment.
Year 4 are currently returning home full of pride, happy memories and plenty of stories to tell. A huge well done to all the children for their enthusiasm, bravery and teamwork — and a big thank you to the school staff as well as the fantastic team at the Gordon Brown Centre for making it all possible!
