This afternoon, our Year 4 pupils had the wonderful opportunity to visit Finsbury Park Mosque as part of their RE learning in Branch 6: Dialogue and Encounter. Joey, our pilgrim bear, came along too!
The visit brought to life all that the children have been studying about Islam, especially their recent focus on the Five Pillars. To build on their learning, our host gave us an informative talk and answered many thoughtful questions from our pupils.
We explored the prayer hall, learned about the importance of daily prayer, fasting during Ramadan, giving to charity (Zakat) and the meaning of the Shahada (declaration of faith).
A highlight of the visit was discovering that King Charles and Camilla have visited the mosque many times — and we even saw the visitor book where they had signed their names! The pupils were very excited to learn this and it sparked great conversation about community and respect.
Our hosts were incredibly generous with their time, encouraging respectful dialogue and helping the children make strong connections between their classroom learning and real-life religious practice.
The visit was not only informative, but also a great opportunity to promote respect, understanding and appreciation for different world faiths — key values in both our school and wider community.
A huge thank you to everyone at Finsbury Park Mosque for their hospitality and for helping our pupils grow in knowledge and empathy. Well done to Year 4 for representing our school so thoughtfully! Thanks also to our parent volunteers for giving up their time to help out on the trip and making it a big success!
