On Friday, Year 3 had an exciting and action-packed Science Day full of curiosity, laughter, and learning! The classroom was buzzing with enthusiasm as we explored the world of science through three fun and fascinating experiments.
🔬 Experiment 1: The Great Biscuit Dunk-Off!
We began the day by investigating which biscuit is the best for dunking. Using stopwatches and lots of careful observations, we tested how long different biscuits could survive a dunk in water before breaking apart. Some biscuits held strong, while others crumbled almost immediately! There were lots of surprising results and the children drew interesting conclusions.
🍫 Experiment 2: Stretching the Limits with Curly Wurlys
Next, we put our muscles (and patience) to the test as we attempted to break the world record for the longest stretched-out Curly Wurly! We gently pulled and stretched the chocolate bars to see how far they could go without snapping. Some of us got them really long— even longer than a ruler! It was great fun seeing how far we could go while being careful scientists at the same time. Sadly, we didn’t get close to the record of the length of half a bus.
🌟 Experiment 3: Making Mysterious Oobleck
To finish our science adventures, we got hands-on with a very strange substance called oobleck. It’s a non-Newtonian fluid, which means it sometimes behaves like a liquid and sometimes like a solid! We loved poking it, squeezing it, and watching it ooze between our fingers. It was like magic!
Overall, Science Day was a brilliant success. We learned so much about experimenting, observing, and having fun with science. Year 3 are definitely young scientists in the making!
