What an exciting week it has been for Year 3! The children have been incredibly busy learning, exploring, and creating, all while deepening their understanding of their local community and the beautiful world around them.
We were very fortunate to welcome Proud Places into school this week. This special visit gave the children the opportunity to learn more about their local area and its history, helping them to develop a sense of pride and belonging within their community. As part of the workshop, the class visited the famous Whittington Stone, our local landmark that commemorates the story of Dick Whittington—the boy who travelled to London seeking his fortune and became Lord Mayor.
At the site, the children were captivated by the tale of Dick Whittington and his faithful cat. They even had the chance to help retell the story, taking on roles and bringing the characters to life through drama and storytelling. This hands-on experience helped them to connect history with the world around them and see how local landmarks can tell important stories from the past.
During the visit, Year 3 also met with community members and conservation experts who are passionate about protecting and improving the Whittington Stone for future generations. The children listened carefully and asked thoughtful questions about why it’s important to look after historical places and how everyone can play a part in caring for their community. Back in the classroom, the children took part in a creative art and design workshop. Using inspiration from the Whittington Stone, they designed and made their very own versions, each one unique and full of character! This activity gave them a chance to express their creativity while celebrating the beauty and significance of their local area. The finished pieces looked absolutely wonderful—well done, Year 3!
Later in the week, the children also took part in an environmental lesson with Ms. Sofia, which focused on appreciating and caring for God’s creation, one of our CST principles. The class ventured outdoors to explore the natural world around them and collected a variety of beautiful leaves to use in a fun and creative activity. They then created leaf stamps, pressing and printing patterns onto cloth to capture the textures and shapes found in nature.
The children loved seeing how each leaf created a different design, and the activity sparked wonderful conversations about how we can look after our planet and thank God for the world He has given us. It was a joyful and reflective session that perfectly combined art, science, and spirituality.
Well done Year 3
