This week, Year 2 enjoyed a special environmental session with Miss Sophia, all about the importance of trees and how they help our world. The children learned that trees give us oxygen, which we need to breathe, and that’s why it’s so important to look after them. Everyone had the chance to get their hands muddy by planting baby trees in our school grounds. As we worked, we talked about what trees need to grow – sunlight, water, space, and care – and how we can help protect the environment for the future.
The children loved being outdoors, showing great curiosity and respect for nature. It was a wonderful reminder that even small actions, like planting a tree, can make a big difference to our planet. Through this activity, the children lived out the Catholic Social Teaching principle of Care for Creation. By learning to nurture and protect the world around them, they are helping to keep our common home beautiful and full of life for everyone.
