Year 3 showed amazing computational thinking skills during our computing day! Thank you so much to the parents who joined us, we hope you learnt a bit more about computing! The children took part in an unplugged lesson from BT’s Barefoot Computing, where they had to get the fox, the chicken, the corn, and the farmer across the river without the fox eating the chicken.
The children were told that if the farmer wasn’t there the fox would then eat the chicken.
They then used the role play cards to come up with their algorithm.
Each time the farmer wasn’t there and the fox ate the chicken, the children had to ‘debug’ their algorithm.
Until eventually they were able to get all characters across the river alive and well!
We were also invited to take part in a bird watching session with the RSPB, where we colloected data in Waterlow Park. The children truly enjoyed this session where they were able to use binoculars to count how many water and land birds. This data was collated and sent to the RSPB. The children worked so beautifully together!
