This week Nursery learnt that the new purple cloth on our R.E altars means it is now the beginning of Advent. The children received a special prayer bag to take home, given to them by the school chaplains.
In school. In school the children have been busy getting ready for Christmas by learning Christmas songs, making decorations and learning about the Christmas crib. We decided to turn our home corner into a Christmas cafe, and we made some salt dough cookies to decorate and sell to customers.
Our ‘Caritas’ focus this half term is ‘preferential option for the poor’, and this week the children shared their ideas about how we can help those in need.
Our digital leaders also came to visit us this week. They helped us explore a range of technology learning toys and equipment – including ‘beebots’ and ‘codeapillars’. We also explored some mark-making programs on the interactive whiteboard.
The children enjoyed another special arrival this week. The children were super surprised to discover an elf waiting for them in each classroom on Monday morning! We quickly set about deciding on a name (‘Loveheart’ in Pearl Class and ‘Chippy’ in White). We discovered that the elf flies back to the North Pole at night, but has magically reappeared each morning in a brand new spot of the room – much to the excitement of us all.
And if that wasn’t enough, our Elf also brought us a wonderful present: our very own Christmas tree! We have all had a lovely week decorating it and talking about our experiences. What an exciting start to our Christmas preparations!
