Nursery had a fabulous day out at Culpeper Community Garden today. We got the 43 bus to Angel Islington. When we got there we were greeted by Mandy, our workshop facilitator.
She welcomed us to the garden, and we then went around the beautiful grounds on a hunt for ‘wiggly worms’ of different colours. It was very exciting! We then brought the worms back and sorted them. We discovered the green and brown ones were the hardest to find, and we learnt about the word ‘camouflage’.
We then split off into groups doing some wonderful activities. Some of us went on a trail to see how many flowers and insects we could find from our sheet. We learnt the names of different flowers and enjoyed ticking them off each time.
Using tubs, and special magnifying pots we collected some soil samples from the ground.
We investigated what we could see in the soil, and found worms, snails and ladybirds. We were also shown the fascinating wildlife that is taking place in the pond such as tadpoles and frogs. We even collected a newt to have a closer look at!
All this excitement made us very hungry, and we then enjoyed a wonderful picnic in the beautiful grounds. We were very lucky with the lovely weather. After our lunch we had a little play at Culpeper playground, before making our way back to school.
