Nursery did a wonderful job of settling back in after the half term break, and have already been discussing their new theme: ‘Growing up!’ We had lots of fun looking after our babies in our new baby clinic role play area; as well as acting in role as customers, shop keepers and waiters in our Central area café and sweet shop.
This week we have been celebrating Lunar New Year, and we are particularly lucky to have children and their families who could share their Chinese cultural heritage with us. We looked at a range of beautiful clothes, artefacts and decorations – and we learnt that 2024 is the year of the dragon. We made fabulous red dragons from playdough, and made dragon and lantern pictures on the creative table.
We made some oriental buildings with our bamboo construction and used tweezers to pick up decorations in our Funky Fingers area. We tasted some special New Year melon sweets, and made some noodles that we tried to pick up with chopsticks!
On Friday we were lucky enough to have Leia’s mum visit us and give us a talk about New Year Celebrations. She brought in some beautiful things to show us:
We were shown a card, decorations and special red envelopes. We saw beautiful outfits belonging to Leia and some of us tried them on. We were read a lovely book, telling us all about all the things we do to celebrate Lunar New Year. Leia’s mum even showed us how to make a decoration by folding paper!
We also had something else new and very exciting to celebrate this week! On Tuesday some eggs arrived … we had a big think about what might hatch!
We didn’t need to wait long to find out: On Wednesday some baby chick hatchlings started to emerge and by Thursday we had 9 fluffy chicks! We can’t wait to get to know them better next week!
