Pearl Class continued their exploration of our wonderful world by learning about some of the countries that make up Asia. We were excited to discover that in our class we have children who have cultural roots from China, Indonesia and Thailand! We had a wonderful week sharing photos, costumes and treasures from these countries, and finding our special countries on globes and maps.
Our key text was ‘The Magic Paintbrush’. We made some fantastic dragons from the story, and enjoyed talking what we would paint if we had a magic paintbrush. We matched some rhyming words from the story and investigated numerals on our lanterns.
We also loved doing Chinese mark-making on the whiteboard, with black paint and with a Chinese ink painting set. Some of us represented some numbers as well as the symbol ‘double happiness’.
This week we have particularly been excited about our new ferry port role play area. We have been busy buying and selling tickets to go to all the amazing countries we have been talking about, as well as buying some interesting souvenirs. We learnt about ferries, shared some of our experiences and even used construction materials to replicate the ferry scenarios we observed in learning time.
We have also spent time this week talking about the special ‘superheroes’ in our lives. We made some beautiful cards for our dads, uncles or grandfathers and ended the week with a proper celebration for them: a fabulous Father’s Day/Superhero picnic. A fantastic time was had by all!
