Nursery: A taste of India.
Pearl Class have been continuing their ‘Taste of the World’ adventures, and our focus this week has been India. On Monday Father George was invited to talk to us. As part of our R.E lesson he talked about friendships, the special friendships of Jesus (such as those with Peter and Paul), and the importance of being a good friend of Jesus.
He was very excited to learn that our key text, ‘The Runaway Chapatti’ is from his country of origin, India!
We enjoyed retelling the story on the small world table. We compared the flat chapatti to the ‘fat’ shape of our English bread, which lead to some discussions into why, and some later investigations into 2D and 3D shape.
Two of us have family members who originate from India. We shared our own family photos of our Indian roots. We looked at buildings, festivals, and of course food! We also looked at bread from different countries such as Italy and France – some of us have family there too!
We made some wonderful chapattis from playdough and collage materials, and when we came in from the playground the chapatti had gone! We guessed that the tiger from the story had eaten it.
The theme for our ‘Caritas’ learning this half term was ‘dignity’. We discussed all the gifts and talents that God has given us, and we celebrated them as we passed a wrapped present around the circle. It made us so happy to think about all the things that makes us special, so we made up a special prayer of thanks to God.
We really made the most of the hot weather on Tuesday and Wednesday. We brought in our swimming kit and all had a wonderful time having a dip in our very own paddling pool outside in the nursery garden. We also did a fantastic job of having a go at changing our clothes independently – lots of learning and lots of fun!
