What is friction?
Milo defined friction as, “A pushing force that can slow and stop objects.” Milo the scientist is correct.
In Year 3 we investigated different materials and the force (friction) that they create. If you were wondering, our new topic is Magnets and Forces in Science, hence the investigation.
With the classes we dicussed how would be the best way to go about investigating this, having watched some videos we decided, using the resources;
Rulers
Toy Cars
Materials, wool, binka, polyester and felt
Books
That we would lift up the book and see at what height the car moved. Therefore measuring the friction taking affect upon the car.
The children first of all predicted (educated guess/what we think will happen), investigated, ensuring it was a fair test and lastly wrote a conclusion (what happened.)
