This week in Reception, we have continued our topic on the Euros and focussed on Italy! We learnt about a famous Italian artist called Michelangelo and tried out drawing whilst laying down to try and imagine what it was like for him painting the Sistine Chapel, in Rome. We heard stories in Italian from some of our parents and also learnt how to say the days of the week in Italian. We finished the week by making pizzas using the colours of the Italian flag; red for the tomato sauce, white for the cheese/bun and green for the basil!
This week our butterflies emerged from their cocoons! We enjoyed observing their patterned wings how they ate the fruit we left for them. Sadly, we had to release them so we held a little ceremony and waved them off.
We have been working hard on problem solving this week, trying to be resilient and work as a team when challenged to get all 20 small bears balancing on just 4 lolly sticks and 4 cups. We also used junk modelling materials to design a successful boat that would float. We used our knowledge of materials to select which would be the most appropriate to make a boat to hold passengers and that would not sink! We were excited when we tested them out!
