This week in Year 6, our pupils have been working hard delivering their speeches in front of their peers in preparation for the Young Speaker’s Challenge on Wednesday the 12th of February. At St Joseph’s, we are committed to instilling a sense of self-confidence and developing our students’ ability of public speaking. Oracy (spoken language) is a component of the curriculum that can often be brushed over, but we understand the value and importance this crucial life skill holds for our pupils in improving their social skills, interview skills and overall, developing their ability to speak what they are feeling.
Additionally, we continued observing our class liturgies, where the pupils create a presentation for the class based on a theme, supported by scripture before asking their peers to reflect on the message. This is done completely by the pupils with minimal guidance from staff to develop their independence, planning and organisational skills.
