This week in Year One, we were fortunate to have a special visit from Sister Anne who came to lead our Advent Retreat. Year One discussed why Christmas is a very important time of year and how we prepare for Christmas at home, in school and in church. Year One remembered that Christmas is a time for celebrating Jesus and the birth of a new baby King, God’s son. They learned about the time of Advent and how long it lasts, as well as the different coloured candles. Most of the advent candles are purple, except for the 3rd candle which is pink because it represents joy and hope. The last candle is white which is lit on Christmas Day to symbolise the arrival of the innocent, baby Jesus. Year One thought about how we can be kind to others at Christmas and remember those who may not be as fortunate at this time of year.
Thank you, Sister Anne!
Following on from this, Year One went to the school chapel to admire the crib and the Nativity scene. We discussed the true meaning of Christmas, to remind ourselves of Mary and Joseph and the journey that they took to bring a new Baby King into the world and the hope that Jesus brought to everyone.
Well done, Year One!
