Today, Year 6 were lucky as they had one of our incredible parents – who works in the STEM field – visit the school to deliver an informative workshop. Eimear Howley works as a neuroscientist and came in to talk about her job, including her current projects, and what a typical day looks like as a neuroscientist. Eimear talked to the children about how she is currently working with a team who aim to cure ALS disease which is a fatal motor neuron disease. As well as this, she showed us various diagrams of the brain & neurons, before explaining how the neurons use the electricity present in our bodies to communicate with each other. At the end of the session, we had a Q&A session where we learned about Eimear’s previous projects, the various clinical trials she conducted and her education. We are very privileged and grateful that Eimear came in to deliver this inspiring session to our pupils.
