On our return to school, we were saddened by the news of Pope Benedict XVI passing away. We felt it was important to honour the once leader of the Catholic Church, therefore we decided to create a fact file detailing the former Pope’s life. On Thursday 5th of January, we saw part of Pope Emeritus Benedict’s funeral at the Vatican City. We then discussed the hierarchy of the Catholic Church outlining how important the role of the Pope truly is. We keep Pope Benedict in our thoughts and prayers.
Throughout the week it was fantastic to hear the stories from the pupils on their lovely time off during the holidays. It was great to see all of their bright faces back in school enjoying themselves (albeit, as tiring as the first week back may have been!).
In Topic, we carried on and finished our Impacts of War topic. The pupils discussed the London Blitz and had the opportunity to explore how it impacted their locality. We even discovered that our very own school was bombed! The pupils found it incredibly fascinating to use the interactive map detailing the exact locations where bombs had hit in London.
In PE we are moving on to our new topic of Netball and Dance. Well done to all who were in on Wednesday and Friday wearing the full St Joseph’s PE kit! It is so important that our pupils have uniformity as a student body when coming to school.
A great first week back to kick off what will be an incredible 2023!
