In Music this week, we had the opportunity to watch the culmination of this half-terms work. This half-term, the pupils have been focusing on Benjamin Britten as their composer; they have also taken inspiration from Gospel Music, working on “Oh Happy Days,” by Edwin Hawkins. The pupils were encouraged to use their understanding of timbre, rhythm and pitch to further improve on their performance.
In Religion, the pupils focused on gaining an understanding into parables. We explored the origin of the word “parable” and how it was formed from a Greek word, which translates loosely to “comparison.” After this, we explored The Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37) and discussed its meaning. We deduced that the meaning behind this parable is to treat those in need, regardless of their background. The pupils then worked independently on the parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15: 11-32), the parable of the Mustard Seed (Matthew 13: 31-32), the parable of the Lost Sheep (Luke 15: 4-7), the parable of the Sower (Luke 8: 4-15) and the parable of the Talents (Matthew 25: 14-30).
A fitting end to the week marked with our new “Outstanding” banner!
