This week, St Joseph’s was extended the fantastic opportunity to participate in Douglas Buchanan’s Maths Challenge. Born and educated in Zimbabwe, Douglas Buchanan taught for seven years there before arriving in England in 1981. Buchanan worked at Eagle House School, Sandhurst Berkshire, for 29 years and retired in July 2010. He now travels the country hosting mathematics challenges to inspire and challenge students. The event was held at the marvellous London Guildhall, where Mayor Sadiq Khan resides. Our students performed remarkably well – placing in the top 10 out of 50 schools across England – but most importantly, thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and grandeur of the opportunity. This is but one of the fantastic opportunities we aim to offer all of our pupils here at St Joseph’s.
