We are so glad that many children in Year 5 had a restful and enjoyable holiday. However, the holidays and well and truly over, and Year 5 have been working super hard this week.
In preparation for our new History topic, Journeys, the children were asked to create a project of their choice on this topic. We have received some amazing posters, research projects and even some model boats to decorate our classroom.
In English, we have read this half term’s focus text, ‘FArTHER’ by Grahame Baker-Smith. In preparation for writing a letter from the perspective of our characters, we have been exploring the feelings and motivations of the characters and how this makes them behave.
In science, we have begun a new topic called ‘Growing Up and Growing Old’. We are looking at the human life cycle and the changes that can occur at each stage. This week we learned the order of the life cycles, and learned what a gestation period is. The children were surprised to learn how different the lengths of a gestation period can be in different mammals when they were conducting research.
