Today is World Book Day and Year 4 have enjoyed some fantastic celebrations.
Our theme this year is ‘Cosy up with a book’, so the children came into school dressed in their pyjamas, onesies and comfy clothes. They were pleased they didn’t even have to get dressed this morning!
We spent the day completing book-themed activities, such as making bookmarks and working out anagrams. They had an opportunity to be very creative, using their favourite books to recreate book covers and write their own blurbs.
At home, the children decorated wooden spoons and turned them into their favourite book characters. Today they discussed which characters they had made and presented these to the class. Then, they used them to create their own weird and wonderful stories with a mix of characters.
In the afternoon, we had a whole school World Book Day quiz. The children were split into groups including one child from each year group. They were then challenged to answer a range of questions based on the books they have been reading this year. It was a tough competition but they gave it their best shot. This was a great opportunity for the whole school to come together to find out about the books we have been reading. The teachers even had some questions of their own!
The children thoroughly enjoyed celebrating World Book Day today and it was a great way to excite them further about reading.
