This week in Year 4 we ventured to our timeline in the school to explore when Highgate Cemetery opened. We discovered it opened in 1839 and located this on the timeline, we noticed it was quite close to our school being built which happened later in 1866! We made links to previous learning and placed previous topics on a timeline. We now know Highgate Cemetery was built during the Victorian Era and delved into the history of what life was like 184 years ago! We were shocked to learn of the conditions and how poorer children were treated, we agreed that life has definitely improved since then!
We have also been ‘diving’ into our new focus book in English called Manfish! We have been exploring new vocabulary and thinking about the thoughts and feelings of the character. We then built on that and produced diary entries based on the emotions. We described what it would be like to use the ‘Aqua Lung’ and discover the wonderful paradise beneath the water!
