In today’s Caritas lesson, Year 4 pupils explored the Catholic Social Teaching (CST) principle of Solidarity and Peace through the CAFOD Banana Split Game. This engaging activity helped them understand global justice and fairness in trade, particularly in the banana industry. The children also made links to Dignity of Workers.
The pupils took on different roles in the supply chain – banana workers, plantation owners, shippers, importers and supermarket buyers. They negotiated how the price of a banana is distributed. Through this, they saw how economic decisions impact the lives of farmers and workers in developing countries.
By discussing Fairtrade and ethical consumer choices, they reflected on how solidarity means standing with those in need and promoting peace by ensuring just and fair working conditions worldwide. This lesson encouraged them to consider how small actions, like choosing Fairtrade products, can contribute to a more just and peaceful world!
In celebration of Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope, our classroom doors have been transformed into visual stories of biblical journeys. Sapphire Class focused on Joseph’s journey to Egypt from the Old Testament. Blue Class depicted the Magi following the star to Bethlehem, capturing their pilgrimage of faith from the New Testament. These decorated doors serve as a reminder of the hope and trust in God that guided these travellers, inspiring us all to walk our own journeys with faith.
