This week in Year 4, we had our magical Advent Assembly! Our Senior Leadership Team led the assembly and shared with us the meaning behind the different items we place on our tree for example, we place green baubles on our tree which represent God’s everlasting love, red baubles represent the blood of Jesus, the angel that is placed on top of a Christmas tree represents the Angel Gabriel who told Mary that she would be the Mother of God and purple is the liturgical colour of Advent and it shows that we are looking forward to welcoming the coming of a King. Jesus is the Messiah who was promised. We also lit the first candle on the Advent Wreath which symbolises hope. We were all in awe when the lights turned on and could feel the Christmas spirit throughout the school!
In Religion this week, we explored our Caritas theme of Preferential Option for the Poor, we discussed a range of ideas that could help encourage people to give to those less fortunate and those who need our help. We also explored that the word preferential means giving someone the best that is available; not just the scraps or leftovers and allowing someone to have the first choice.
We have also been busy creating our beautiful Christmas crafts, which will be available to get this Friday at our Year 4 stall!
