This week Year 4 had their prayer services, which focused on the theme of racial and religious harmony. The children read the story of the Good Samaritan and then presented their own reflections on the meaning of this parable. From this parable, Christians can learn that while it is easy to love friends and family, it can be much more difficult to love those who you may not get along with, or even those who may harm or hurt you. To show love to your enemies is to truly love as Christ did. The children and their parents wrote about how they could show love to their neighbours this week, taking inspiration from this teaching.
This was a wonderful opportunity to bring the children and their parents together in prayer and song. We are very grateful for the kind comments from the parent feedback forms, Year 4 were proud of themselves.
In Geography this week, we have been working on our new topic, Eathquakes and Volcanoes. We labelled the parts of the earth and then discussed how earthquakes occur. The children were able to use geographical language to explain the process of earthquakes. Then, we explored tectonic plates and drew the different plates on a world map. We used an earthquake spotting map to plot recent earthquakes, taking note that these usually occur along plate boundaries. The children loved using our school map to find and discuss the location of earthquakes around the world.
