This week has been particularly exciting for our Year 4 pupils as they delved into the world of Current Affairs with a focus on the US presidential election. Our aim was to introduce the children to the democratic process, encourage critical thinking, and spark discussions about leadership. We are thrilled to share the fascinating ways in which our young learners engaged with this complex topic!
Our pupils have been exploring the intricacies of the US presidential election, a topic that has been in the news recently. They’ve learned about the candidates, the election process and the significance of voting. In their lessons, they discussed key events, including Joe Biden’s decision to step down from the race and Donald Trump’s unfortunate incident of being shot in the ear.
To demonstrate their understanding, the children created spider diagrams illustrating their very own ideas and plans if they were elected as president. These diagrams were a fantastic way for them to organise their thoughts and explore various aspects of leadership. The pupils were enthusiastic and imaginative, presenting creative and insightful ideas for new laws and improvements they would make.
The highlight was the mini debates that took place in pairs. This activity allowed the children to articulate their thoughts, practice their debating skills and engage in meaningful discussions about their proposed policies. Each pair shared their ideas on what they would do if they were president, presenting new laws and changes they would implement. It was inspiring to see them confidently express their viewpoints and listen to others.
We look forward to seeing how our pupils continue to explore and engage with current affairs in the future!
