Year 4 started their new Science topic with a fun activity this week, building their own bridges. The topic, The Big Build, explored how various structures are designed and constructed. The children were asked to create four bridges using different shapes. They placed weights on their bridges until they collapsed. They used their results to determine which shape was the most effective to strengthen a bridge. Triangles and arches were the best shapes!
In English, we are beginning a new book entitled ‘The Journey’. This book follows the story of a family of refugees fleeing their country to find a safe place to live. The children were able to put themselves in the shoes of these characters to consider the impact of the war and this journey on their lives. They used drama to bring the story to life, taking freeze-frame pictures to depict each scene.
