This week Year 3 had their environmental studies session in the woodland area. Pupils were given opportunities to share their knowledge from their science topic ‘How does your Garden Grow?’ which they studied in Spring Term. Pupils were able to incorporate this prior knowledge into the lesson and build on it. Pupils then had opportunities to plant sunflower seeds which they got to take home and nurture during the summer term.
In other areas of the curriculum, pupils got to investigate the strengths of magnets through an experiment. In this experiment pupils had to test the strength of 3 different magnets, measured against the number of paper clips each magnet could hold. In addition, pupils explored the scientific skills of predicting and concluding findings of their experiment.
In our topic Local History, pupils had the opportunity to explore how we can use sources to tell us information about the past. In this particular lesson, pupils were given photographs of Highgate in the past and present. They had to use a Venn Diagram to identify things that have changed about Highgate over the years and things that may have stayed the same.
