This week in RSE pupils continued their learning about emotional well-being through a focus on social media. This week’s lesson encouraged children to see through the fake reality that is presented to them on television, in magazines, and in adverts: we compared these representations and stereotypes to their own life experiences. This session was particularly useful in revealing and discussing biased gender stereotypes and how children felt about them. Children considered how the polished ‘reality’ of the media can affect how people feel about themselves.
Through scenarios and role-play, we explored how dangerous comparison can be and how the society of today can present itself on social media in a very different light from true reality. Pupils enjoyed expressing themselves through drama working on speaking and listening skills and teamwork.
