With the world cup kicking off this week there was a real buzz around the school. Pupils in year three were eager to incorporate this huge universal event into their learning. As our Geography topic was all about weather and climate we decided to take our learning to the subtropical climate zone of Qatar and explore it’s weather and climate. Pupils were exploring the desert landscape of Qatar and how this impacts the lifestyle of people who live there. We also learned about the seasons in Qatar and came to understand that due to the climate zone it lies in, Qatar does not experience the same weather within the seasons that we do.
In Science, year 3 has moved on in our topic ‘Light and Shadows’ to explore how shadows are formed. Pupils investigated the process of shadow formation and studied which objects make the best shadows. We concluded that out of all the translucent, transparent, and opaque objects that objects made out of opaque materials created the best shadows. Pupils also had opportunities to make and test predictions in addition to working on their explanation skills.
