We started off the new term in Year 2 by taking some to remember Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI who passed away on 31st December 2022. We watched some clips of his funeral which took place on 5th January in Vatican City and learned more about what a pope is. He is a holy man and leader of the Catholic Church. We learned that Pope Francis is our current pope and he is from Argentina.
On Friday, we attended mass at St. Joseph’s Church for a special Epiphany mass. This holy day celebrates when the wise men or magi made it to the stable where Jesus was born. We learned that they used the stars in the sky to help them find their way to Bethlehem. We also know that they brought three gifts for the baby king – gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Some of the children also received well deserved certificates for having full attendance at school in Autumn term. We congratulate them and encourage everyone else to aim for 100% attendance in Spring term!
