In R.E. lessons this week, the Year 2 children have been learning about what a covenant is. They now know that it is a special promise between God and someone else. Today, the children worked together to retell the story of Noah from the book of Genesis in the Old Testament. First, they had to sequence the picture cards in the correct order before matching the correct description to each picture. After that, they explained different parts of the story to the rest of the class. The main points of the story we learned about were:
- God was angry because people on earth did evil things.
- Noah was a good man and God said him, “Go build a boat.I will bring a huge flood on the earth. I will destroy all living things but I will make a covenant with you. You and your family will go in the boat. Also, bring two of every living thing.”
- Noah did everything that God asked him to do and started to build the ark.
- The flood started soon after and the clouds poured rain for 40 days and 40 nights. The water rose so much that even mountains were covered by it. All living things died.
- All that was left was Noah and his family on the boat above the water. It covered the earth for 150 days.
- Then God made a wind blow over the earth and the water went down. The boat touched land again.
- After this, God said to Noah, “You and your family should go out of the boat. Bring every animal with you.”
- Finally, God said to Noah, “I am making a covenant with you. I will never destroy living things again. I am putting a rainbow in the clouds. It is a sign of the agreement between us.”
