This term, Year 2’s focus text in English is the delightful and inspiring book, ‘Rosie Revere, Engineer!’ by Andrea Beaty. This story, with its captivating illustrations and encouraging message, is already proving to be a hit with the children.
To kick off our exploration of ‘Rosie Revere, Engineer!’, we started by looking closely at the illustrations. Pupils made thoughtful predictions about the plot and the characters, discussing what they thought might happen in the story and what kind of person Rosie might be. This activity not only sparked their imaginations but also set the stage for deeper engagement with the text.
As we delved into the story, we encountered some new and exciting vocabulary. The children worked on understanding and using new words such as ‘sputtered’, ‘gizmos’, ‘perplexed’ and ‘stash’ to name just a few!
The children began by matching each word to its correct definition. Then, to reinforce their learning, pupils put these words into their own sentences. Here are a few examples of their creative efforts:
By engaging with these words in various contexts, the children are expanding their vocabularies and becoming more confident in their language skills.
As we continue to read ‘Rosie Revere, Engineer!’, we will be exploring its themes of creativity, perseverance and problem-solving.
We encourage you to talk to your child about the book and the new words they are learning. Ask them about their predictions and the sentences they created. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to sharing more updates as we journey through this wonderful book together!
