This week in Science, Year 2 carried out an investigation on germs. The children were given bowls with water which had pepper sprinkled on top – this represented germs that live on our hands and other surfaces. They then took turns at dipping their fingers into the water to see what happened. But nothing changed at all. However, when the children put some hand soap, washing-up liquid or hand gel on their fingers and dipped them into the water, the pepper spread out away from the soapy fingers instantly. The children recorded their observations and results in their Science books, stating that this experiment proves that germs do not like soap. Therefore, we should always be conscious of our personal hygiene and wash our hands thoroughly!
