A wonderful first week back for the final Summer term! We have begun our new topic in History called ‘Our Local Heroes!’ and have researched some of the heroes we have in our local area!
We were astonished at how many interesting and heroic things people have done but we also acknowledged that a hero does not necessarily mean they are strong and powerful, but are people we look up to for their bravery, actions and achievements!
We learnt how Alan Turing cracked the enigma code during World War II and how Tim Berners-Lee was the man who created the World Wide Web! We also discovered Diane Abbott was the first ever black woman elected into parliament! We are looking forward to finding out more amazing facts about those who live or lived locally!
We then ended the week with a spectacular workshop all about Science! We absolutely loved the experiments Dr Szydlo performed for us but more interestingly HOW he did them. There were many experiments but some of our favourites were: Placing alkaline and universal indicator to make water change colour! The use of nitrogen to shrink a balloon then warmth to bring it back to it’s normal size and lastly, Dr Szydlo had an empty paint can and then added petrol, air and a flame which made a small explosion! What a week!!!
