This week, the children in Year 2 have been working extremely hard in all subjects. In Maths, we have been using the column method for addition and subtraction problems. In Science, the children learned that humans need to eat the right amount of different types of food such as fruit and vegetables, carbohydrates, proteins, dairy and oils. The children now know what a balanced diet looks like. In History, we explored what life was like in the early 1600s when Guy Fawkes was alive. Back then, people didn’t have electricity so they used lanterns or candles to see. They also didn’t use cars or buses to travel like we do today as they hadn’t been invented. Rather, they either walked or used horses or maybe even wooden row boats. In English, the children identified contracted forms of word pairs such as it’s, wouldn’t, they’re, and she’ll. Later in the week, they used a range of conjunctions such as ‘and’, ‘because, ‘when’, ‘but’ and ‘so’ to extend sentences.
