This week in Religion lessons, the Year 2 children have been learning about what happened to Jesus’ apostles after The Resurrection. They discovered that while two disciples were talking about seeing Jesus on the road to Emmaus to some other followers, Jesus himself suddenly stood among everyone. He said to them, “Peace be with you.” They were terrified and thought they were seeing a ghost. But Jesus said, “Why are you scared? Why do you doubt what you see? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me. You can see that I have a living body; a ghost does not have a body like this.”After Jesus said this, he showed them his hands and feet. The followers were amazed and very happy. They still could not believe it. Following this, Jesus was carried into heaven.
The children used Scripture from the Gospel of Luke in their work and considered how the apostles may have felt before and after seeing Jesus. Later in the week, we looked more into the life of St. Luke and learned how he managed to write the Gospel despite never having met Jesus. The children now know that Luke spoke to eyewitnesses who saw Jesus preach and perform miracles. He believed in Jesus’ story so much that he recorded it for generations to come!
