Over the last few weeks, Year 2 have been learning all about Holy Week in Religion lessons. They started off by retelling the events of Palm Sunday according to Luke’s Gospel. This was when Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem on a colt and the crowds of people waved palm leaves to welcome Him as King.
In the next lesson, children recalled the story of The Last Supper when Jesus sat with his twelve disciples to celebrate Passover. They created storyboards accompanied by simple sentences, that sequenced the key events from Scripture.
Later in the week, they wrote diary entries to retell the story of Jesus’ Crucifixion on Good Friday. The children pretended that they were a member of the crowd watching the events unfold.
After this, pupils wrote newspaper articles to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. They did this through the eyes of Mary Magdalene, who went to visit Jesus’ tomb and discovered that he wasn’t there. The angels told her that Jesus had risen from the dead.
Finally, the children consolidated their learning by creating a lovely Easter craft to sequence the key events that occurred each day during Holy Week. Well done everyone on your hard work this term! We hope you have a lovely break with family and friends!
