This week, Year 2 were introduced to their new key text in English, ‘The King Who Banned the Dark’. The children started off the week by making predictions about what they thought might happen based on the title. Later in the week, they identified unfamiliar words from the text such as reign, revolt, advisors and demanded. The children used dictionaries and thesauruses to find the meaning of these words as well as some synonyms. One group even managed to spot another word from the the story in the thesaurus – ‘artificial’ . They then wrote some sentences using these words and presented their work to the rest of the class. It is great to see so many children developing their speaking and listening skills in English. Well done!
