This week in English, Year 2 have been hard at work. On Monday they identified noun phrases, contractions and time adverbials in ‘The Bog Baby’. They then recapped the four sentence types before writing commands based on the story such as “Don’t feed the Bog Baby cake crumbs because he might get sick.” We were impressed by their use of contractions and conjunctions. Later in the week, the children used an example text to identify the writer’s use of similes, conjunctions, adverbs and past tense verbs. They found some interesting words and phrases such as ‘immediately’, ‘wobbly like jelly’ and ‘trudged’. Today, the children designed their very own weird and wonderful creatures and labelled their features using noun phrases. They will use these next week to plan and write their very own story based on ‘The Bog Baby’.
