This week, we watched Elena from Orange Class and Victoria from Amber Class represent Year 1 in the Young Speakers Challenge. The girls performed their speeches on ‘Care for Creation’ beautifully and we are super proud of all their efforts! They made speaking in front of a large audience seem easy! Well done girls you were amazing!!
We have been exploring subtraction up to 20. We have been using lots of resources to help us including number lines, tens frames and numicon! We also established the different connections between number bonds to 10 and number bonds to 20.
In English, we started the week off with learning plurals using ‘s’ and ‘es’. We also discussed the use of question marks and when to use these. We discovered we normally use them when our sentences start with: what, who, when, why and how. We also developed our English skills and learned about alliteration then, used these skills in a poem and presented our poems to the class.
In Religion, we have been discussing the importance of following in Jesus’ footsteps. We discussed ways in which we can be a follower of Jesus either at school or at home. Then, we drew footsteps in the playground leading up to Jesus using chalk. For Caritas day, we also delved into ways in which we can be a peacemaker in our world. We first talked with our partners about what a peacemaker could be and then ways we can implement peace in our daily lives.
The children have worked incredibly hard the past 6 weeks and we all hope you have a magnificent and glorious half term!
