Here at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, Highgate, we had a fantastic day of celebrations for World Book Day with wonderful costumes, competitions, story-telling and prizes to be won.
Children and teachers came to school dressed as their favourite book characters. We had a costume parade and the best ones were awarded ‘Willy Wonka Golden Ticket’ style book vouchers. We had a story-telling event with the older children reading to the younger ones in the playground during break-times through-out the day.
A week-long book fair arrived and we transformed our fabulous library into a book shop. It was officially opened by the Gruffalo!
Angela Noronha, Head of School, said “World Book Day is a great opportunity to raise the profile of reading across the whole school community and helps children to engage with books in an exciting way.”
We were also treated to a visit during the week from New Zealand illustrator, Angela Keoghan and author, Chris Lam Sam, whose book, ‘Inspector Brunswick: The Case of the Missing Eyebrow’, has just been published by Tate Publishing. This was organised by Pickled Pepper Books, Crouch End.
We had a very booky week!
