Reception have been learning about comparing amounts this week in maths! We have used autumnal objects to count and compare amounts, recognise numbers and say which amounts are more/less or the same. If you go on a nature walk this weekend you could collect some conkers, acorns, leaves or pine cones for counting at home! We also read the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and compared the different objects for a Bear’s picnic; plates, bowls, spoons and cups. We talked about the objects being big, large, medium, small or tiny. We sorted the objects accordingly for each Bear!
In Phonics, we have been using musical instruments to make loud and quiet sounds. We linked this to our Autumn learning and ordered the life cycle of an acorn. We then learnt how to play quietly as the acorn was planted and got louder and louder as the acorn started to sprout, grow into a sapling and then an oak tree! The children have been fantastic at looking at hand signals from a conductor to show when to start, stop, play quietly and loudly!
It was Poetry Day on Thursday so we read the rhyming book ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What can you see?’ We then went on to make up our own class version of the poem using different colours, patterns and animals that the children wanted to include. For our excellent effort, we were awarded a new book poetry for our classroom, ‘Mad about Dinosaurs!’ Lots of the children were very excited about this and we look forward to reading it soon!
