This week in Year 1 we learned about what happens on Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. We learned that the poppy is a popular symbol of remembrance as it reminds us of the battle fields during the First World War where it was the only flower that grew. We made our own poppies to remember the soldiers who lost their lives.
We also took part in a 2 minute silence, where we closed our eyes and thought about all those who lost their lives in WW1 and WW2 and also those who have died in wars since then. We then discussed why it is important to never forget them.
We also had a lovely music lesson this week with our music teacher Miss Emma. We practised singing different songs, such as ‘see saw up and down’ and combined them with gestures and movement to help us remember the song. Some of us even sat in Miss Emma’s magical singing chair and had a go at singing the song to the class on our own.
