Well done Reception children for another wonderful week of learning! This week has been marked by a special visit by two gold medallist athletes from Team Superstars- Steve, who performed some amazing gymnastics for us, and Ryan, who kindly took some time away from his sprinting to show us 4 great exercises that everybody can do every day to keep their bodies healthy. We made our own medals just like Ryan’s and Steve’s, and had lots of fun watching some very impressive videos of people doing gymnastics, athletics and other sports just like them! Ryan and Steve spoke about the importance of working hard to make your dreams happen and never giving up on them. Today, we read Akala’s ‘You Can Do Anything (Hip and Hop)’ to reflect on our own goals. We drew them and wrote sentences to record them- we had a few future doctors, fire fighters and ninjas as well as some aspiring gymnasts, no doubt inspired by Steve’s fantastic demonstration!
In Phonics this week, we have learned the new digraphs or and er, enjoying reading Julia Donaldson’s ‘Sugarlump and the Unicorn’ and combing it for ‘or’ sounds, as well as answering ‘or’ questions as we register ourselves every morning, such as, ‘Do you like dogs or cats?’
In Maths, we have focused on spatial reasoning, and particularly how we can use 2D shapes to make new ones. As our special Maths challenge this week, we have been cutting squares into 2 triangles and practiced making them into a bigger triangle, a diamond, a parallelogram and more!
Meanwhile, in RE we have been talking all about friendship and how to be a good friend, celebrating our friends this week by writing prayers and cards for them, as well as making them friendship bracelets.
We hope you all have a lovely, restful half term break, and look forward to welcoming you back in June for our final half term of Reception!
